Using Songs Inside and Outside the Classroom
Audience: ESOL Instructors, ESOL Coordinators & Program Managers
The universal appeal of music makes songs and music videos great teaching tools. This hands-on workshop introduces different practices to encourage inside and outside of class learning with songs. Ten activities incorporate all four skills, build vocabulary in lexical chunks, and address differences in digital literacy. No musical talent required.
Facilitator: Elke Stappert - is a lead ESOL and Literacy instructor at the New York Public Library, a part-time ESOL teacher at 1199 SEIU Funds and the chair-elect of TESOL's Video and Digital Media Interest Section. Her teaching focus and interest is in developing activities and materials to encourage outside of class practice.
